Discover Montserrat

Monks and Miracles

Perched atop the cliffs is the monastery of Santa Maria de Montserrat, an 11th Century Benedictine abbey where over 70 monks still live and practice today. Join your local guide to explore the beautiful Basilica, with its Gothic and Renaissance features and rich collection of paintings and mosaics, which also houses Montserrat’s most important artefact, “La Moreneta”, or Black Madonna. Learn about the legend of the miraculous apparition of the Madonna and Child in the cave of Santa Cova and discover why Montserrat is one of the most important sites of religious worship in Catalonia.
