ABOUT THE International Women’s Day Tour of Madrid
For one weekend only join us on a unique tour as we explore just some of the female heroes who have shaped Spain as the country we know today. International Women’s Day in March celebrates the social, cultural, economic and political achievements of women and on this tour you will discover the Queens, writers, war heroes and more who transformed the city and country. From Manuela Malasaña Oñoro, who gave her life to the cause of freedom when standing up to French invaders, to the hidden talents of Las Sin Sombrero, a collection of Spanish women thinkers and artists belonging to the famous generation of 27. Madrid is alive with the history of women’s achievements, come and celebrate them with us on this tour.
The SANDEMANs International Women’s Day Tour of Madrid celebrates women, from different backgrounds and times in history. Be inspired by the stories of bravery of Victoria Kent, a lawyer and Republican politician who lived a dangerous life in exile during the Spanish Civil War before becoming the second ever female minister. Learn about the achievements of Beatriz Galindo, a writer, humanist, teacher to Queens and why a neighborhood in Madrid is named after her today. On this tour you will visit memorials, locations and statues around Madrid that commemorate many great women.
