The inscription of Nice to the world heritage by Unesco is effective since July 2021! As the "winter resort city of the Riviera", Nice's inscription on the Unesco list is based on several points including the famous Promenade des Anglais, but also the bourgeois and tree-lined neighborhoods of Chime and Mont-Boron, the sublime villas and charming hotels spread throughout the different neighborhoods, the vegetation that is both local and exotic, as well as the urban planning and architecture that have shaped the city through two and a half centuries of tourist activity. During your Free walking tour of Nice, you'll stroll down across its architectural jewels. Here are some of the main highlights that will be waiting for you to be explored.
Place Massena and the sculptures of the 7 Buddhists The sculptures are part of Nice’s Open Sky Art Museum, which stretches along the tramline, they were created by Jaume Plensa, Spanish artist specialized in monumental art. They represent seven continents and the communication between the different communities of today’s society. The buildings surrounding the Massena square are based on Turin architectural style. The people living or working in these buildings have to conform to a special set of rules. For example, that do not have right to hang curtains with bright colors.
Sun Fountain It represents Apollo, the famous Greek god known for his power, beauty, healing and source of life in general.
Avenue Jean Medecin Looking north from Place Massena, you will see Avenue Jean Medecin, where you can find many of the famous retail stores as well as Nice’s shopping centre.
Nice Old Town Nice's city center has an important historical and architectural value. During your day trip, you will discover som of it's highlights as Nice's Opera House, Cours Saleya in other words flower market. You can climb up secret stairs that give you the best view of the Flower Market. You'll continue your visit with Palais de la Préfecture which is a magnificent building. It stands proudly in Old town since XVI century. The next stop is Palais de la Justice which was designed according to the very traditional principle of a colonnade and a great neoclassical staircase.
Place Rossetti is known among tourists and locals for its ice cream shops, restaurant terraces and it's central fountain. You'll also discover St Reparate Cathedral dedicated to Saint Reparata who was a third-century Christian virgin, born in Palestine. While strolling through Nice Old town, you'll discover hundreds of art craft shops known for their local products. You will feel the fragrant smell of socca, which is a must-try local specialty.
Promenade des Anglais This is Nice's most valuable pearl for without hesitation. It's known for its rock-filled beaches and beautiful sunset views and of course Negresco iconic hotel.
Castle Hill You'll end your walking tour in Nice's Castle hill which will open for you a breathtaking view on the Mediterranean see. It's such a pleasure for the eyes and the ears.
