ABOUT THE Triana Walking Tour
Join us as we explore Triana, one of the most authentic and iconic neighborhoods in Seville! Known to the locals as ‘the independent republic of Triana’, some even claim to have never set foot in Seville. While the beautiful riverfront is reason enough to visit this area, it’s the residents that truly make Triana unique! On this 2.5-hour walking tour you will learn about some of the famous local trianeros of the past such as Juan Belmonte, the greatest bullfighter of all time, explorer Rodrigo de Triana who sailed with Christopher Columbus, and the Red Angel of the Spanish Civil War.
Your Triana Walking Tour meets at Paseo Alcalde Marqués del Contadero, behind Torre del Oro, and it usually ends at Museo Del Castillo De San Jorge. Come experience this lively district as we take you through the streets that have been home to generations of explorers, craftspeople, bullfighters and flamenco dancers!
Explore the unique district of Triana with a walking tour
Marvel at the impressive Islamic architecture such as the Tower of Silver and Tower of Gold, learn about the Guadalquivir river and walk across the stunning bridge of Isabel II, known locally as the ‘Bridge of Triana.’ Your guide will also point out the handiwork of one of Spain’s most important architects, Aníbal González, as well as leading you along the riverfront lined with quaint churches (including the oldest church in the area, Santa Ana from 1276).
During your time here, you will no doubt also see lots of beautiful ceramics being sold. Learn how Triana became famous for pottery, and maybe even take a piece home to remember this little district by!
Get introduced to the local trianeros
Residents have traditionally been called trianeros, and the district has been home to generations of sailors, craftspeople, bullfighters and flamenco dancers. On this Triana tour you will learn about a few of the most fascinating characters!
As you pass the chapel of the patron saint of sailors, you will learn about Rodrigo de Triana and his adventures on Christopher Columbus' ship La Pinta. You will also see a monument to the great matador Juan Belmonte and hear about Bartolomé de las Casas, who spent 50 years of his life actively fighting slavery. Walk down the streets where Melchor Rodríguez García grew up in before he went on to become a brave politician during the Spanish Civil War.
